MORE INFO

The Mandela Bay Development Agency and community celebrated the completion of the R40 million Singaphi Street environmental upgrade programme in New Brighton in 2019.

This project was the first major intervention by the MBDA to the townships of Nelson Mandela Bay since the Agency was established primarily to focus on Central Business District rejuvenation.

The MBDA celebrated the milestone with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which have been integral in the delivery of the project. SME’s working on the environmental upgrade were inspired by the Route 67 development in the inner city.

The Agency ensured that 15 local SME contractors benefited with over R11 m worth of contracts carried out by locals.

The Singaphi Street upgrades included a resurfaced road from Ferguson Road up to Olaf Palme Street,  public art, street furniture, children’s play parks, traffic education cycling park, a sports training park and possibilities for vendor trading areas and landscaping.
